Hang Out + Make Art 🫟🦩

In my experience, nothing is more heartbreaking than repeatedly failing to honor what we love.

That being said, there’s a whole bunch of other miserable things:
Imposter syndrome. Compare & despair.
Isolation. Discouragement.
Lack of feedback. Lack of support.

That stuff is kryptonite to our creativity.

But like every bully, these afflictions operate best when they can get you alone — bring friends, and they’ll have to find someone else to pick on…

That’s Why We Hang Out.

A small online circle of artists working side by side.
Brush/Pen/Guitar/Clay/Other… You choose your weapon.

Honor the Muses, Venus, and all the gods by walking your talk and sharing your gifts.
No judgment, no cliques, no pretending. Just warmth, humor, support and encouragement — from friends who want you to keep doing your thing.

The Vibe

I can’t do the suave thing. So expect casual. The idea is: we get in each other’s studio. You do your thing. I make work too. We create a cool, artsy bubble of goodness. Sometimes I offer feedback. Sometimes I mostly listen. We shoot the shit. We work/play. Sometimes we share a playlist.

Every session starts with a short quote on art making, and a quick check-in. Then we make stuff. We end with about 30 minutes of sharing — sweet, honest and constructive feedback (or not, that’s cool too), reflections on where the work is going… That kind of stuff.

  • Operating manual for not quitting: A. Make friends with others who make art, and share your in-progress work with each other frequently B. Learn to think of [A], rather than the Museum of Modern Art, as the destination of your work.

—David Bayles and Ted Orland, Art & Fear: Observations On The Perils (And Rewards) of Artmaking

  • All that matters is that you are making something you love, to the best of your ability, here and now.

― Rick Rubin, The Creative Act: A Way of Being

  • YOU MUST CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

—Peter Sloterdijk,  Rainer Maria Rilke, and anyone paying attention.

Weekly Hangouts

Bi-weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays, three-hour long sessions to make sure you show up for your art. Learn more about the format and schedule here.

Monthly Retreats

Once a month, we gather for a weekend home retreat. Imagine that: a full weekend of art making and process attending, tip swapping and troubleshooting… complete with breakfast greet & scheme, breaks to check out each other’s work or just chill out, and early evening gatherings & reflections. Perfect for kicking off a new project, reviving a dormant practice… or just treat yourself to a fully artsy weekend. More info and full schedule here.

Mentorship

Show me your work, tell me what you’re trying to do, and we’ll find ways together. From troubleshooting your art schedule to getting over a block, from basic drawing or painting to advanced technique… I show up for you and lend you my trust and experience. Weekly, monthly, or ad-hoc. More info there.
